Bully (2012)
I just watched this trailer and it made me tear up. I can remember so many specific points in my adolescent and adult life where I’ve been bullied. Films, especially documentaries, involving children getting hurt hits home pretty hard. I can remember so many times in middle school and high school, standing up for other kids getting bullied. That isn’t something that should be applauded because it’s out of the ordinary, it’s something that should happen regularly and should be normal and second nature.
I used to be more outgoing. I used to seek out people who sat by themselves at school or who I’d notice weren’t hanging out with that many people…and I’d go talk to them. A lot of them are people that I am very close friends with to this day. I wish I was more proactive about befriending people who need someone who listens (not just tries to solve all their problems) and not be so afraid of everyone and everything just because I’ve been assaulted before…I’m working on it.
Be the change you want to see.

A year ago today, I watched this documentary and it was one of the more pivotal things I’ve ever seen. I’ve come to learn and appreciate the Walt Disney company a little bit more because of this film. No, I’m not proud of all of it, but the incredible animators, writers, composers, and songwriters of this company were introduced to me through this film. I credit it for a lot of things. Because of Waking Sleeping Beauty, today marks my one year anniversary of falling in love with Howard Ashman; of poking fun at Jeffrey Katzenberg; of being an animation enthusiast. If it wasn’t for this film, I never would have been interested in seeing Tangled, the film that made me consider even working for this company.
~yay Waking Sleeping Beauty~
